Why got disconnected from Net often in a home wireless environment?
hewen asked:
My home is wireless, however from time to time my laptop got disconnected from internet, and only after repair IP address then I can go back to Net. This happens 10-15 times a day, even I have the IP address manually set in TCP/IP properties box? Why?
I do take my laptop to cafe, then I set to auto search IP address.
I wonder if one time I used cable directly connected to laptop, the mixed uses or mixed setting confused the newtwork communication?

I too had this problem. I fixed it by moving my wireless router away from portable phones and blam! fixed.
I had the same problem with my Netgear router and fixed it by changing the channel.
Usually this has nothing to do with the cable. Perhaps your neighbors also have wi-fi and their signals are interfering with you. The solution is to change the channel by logging into your router. If you use a software like Netstumbler (www.netstumbler.com) you can see what channels are in use around you, and set something at least 2 channels away.
It could be interference from one of your wireless phones or one of your neighbor’s wireless networks. Go into your router, and change the channel to 1, 6, or 11, but do not use any of the other channels besides those 3. If everybody uses 1, 6, and 11, you get the maximum of non overlapping channels.
